Channels

Last updated September 10, 2026

Channels are one-way spoken content feeds for creators — podcasters, opinion leaders, brands, and anyone who wants to push short voice drops the way people push posts on X.

Channels are the creator-feed surface available now. Stories (story channels and audio serials) are a related surface with their own nav when available (see Stories below). A separate membership-circle product, Groups, is parked for a later rollout.

How channels work

  • One-way audio — publishers speak; followers listen live (missed posts stay in Messages)
  • Short voice — recorded drops up to 60 seconds
  • Forced channel voice pack — every post uses the channel's chosen speaking style (one TTS render per fire)
  • Schedule posts, attach music beds, links, emoji bursts, and Spotlight effects
  • Emoji reactions on channel posts (counts for the room; no new spoken announcement)
  • Visibility — private (invite), unlisted (link), or public (Discover)
  • Important / Sponsored — public channels may appear in listeners' opt-in Important lane; Creator plans can mark a send as Sponsored (credits)

Create a channel

  1. Open ChannelsCreate channel.
  2. Name it, pick visibility and a voice pack your plan allows (premium packs need a paid plan). For software releases, pick Product updates instead: see Product updates.
  3. Share the invite / follow link.
  4. Open the channel hub (/channel/<id>) to post (and manage publishers under Channel settings at /channel/<id>/settings).

Publish from a webhook {#publish-from-a-webhook}

If you own (or can already post to) a feed channel, open a webhook and use Publish to my channels. Callers then send channel in the JSON body (or on send_announcement). Hosted MCP can list_channels or create_private_channel first, then pass the slug. A short room line is one card; a longer message or parts airs as one Spotlight series. Story channels, groups, and token rooms are not on that list. This is not a public write API: /c/<slug> stays read-only. Full rules: Webhooks → Publish to my channels.

Every public channel has a permanent landing page at /c/<your-slug> — that's the link to post on X or Telegram. It unfurls with a rich preview card and opens a one-click follow page (with your sample announcement, follower count, and any paid gates). Add ?ref=yourusername to credit referrals to you — Copy channel link on the channel does this automatically.

  • Edit the slug under Channel settings → Public link. Renames leave a permanent redirect, so links already in the wild keep working.
  • Private and unlisted channels intentionally have no public landing — share invite links (/i/…) instead; they stay revocable.

Free accounts get a few channel slots; paid plans get more. See Premium.

Follow a channel

  1. Open an invite link or find a public channel under Discover.
  2. Sign in if needed and join/follow.
  3. Keep spoken alerts unlocked to hear posts.

Coming soon — Sponsored launches once the Important listener pool is big enough to deliver real reach. The composer shows it as Coming soon until then.

On a public channel, with Creator plan and enough credits, you can enable Sponsored (Important) in the broadcast composer when sending to that one channel.

  • Prepaid quote: 100 + 2×live credits (estimate of opted-in non-followers currently online).
  • Listeners who opted into Important (and are not already following you) may hear the post with a Sponsored spoken + visual label.
  • Organic public posts can still reach the Important lane without charging you; Sponsored is the paid boost.

Details: Spoken alerts → Sponsored.

Stories {#stories}

Stories are story channels where only the character speaks, often carrying an audio serial (a day-by-day spoken show). When Stories are enabled for your account, open Stories for shows you own or follow, and Catalog → Stories to discover public ones. A story channel is still a channel underneath; the Stories list is the dedicated surface for that experience.

Creating a story uses Create story from the Stories / catalog flow. Followers hear beats live the same way as other spoken alerts, often with Spotlight presentation. Missed beats stay in Messages.

Premium & money (later)

Channel access is open by default. We may later add platform-plan perks and/or paid channel access — those models are not required to use channels today.
